Three Nabbed In Revenge-Type Shooting Linked To Fairfield County Basketball Game

Three Fairfield County men were arrested for a "revenge-type" shooting and damaging a vehicle following a two-week investigation after a teen shot while playing basketball.

Dashaun Mitchell, 22 of Stratford, Derek Watley 24, of Bridgeport, and Marquese Coleman, 23, of Stratford,  were arrested recently for the shooting which took place on Aug. 7 on Bruce Avenue in Stratford, according to Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti. 

An investigation following the shooting identified the three as suspects and warrants were obtained for their arrests, Eannotti said.

Over the past two weeks all three have located and charged for their involvement, he added.

The shooting is believed to be a revenge-type act for the shooting of a teen earlier in the day. The 16-year-old teen who was shot while playing basketball was hit by a bullet in what police said at the time appeared to a drive-by shooting. 

Mitchel was charged with criminal attempt, assault and weapons in a motor vehicle. He is being held on $150,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 28.

Watley was charged with criminal attempt and assault. He is being held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 29.

Coleman was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree assault and weapons in a motor vehicle. He is being held on $250,000 bond is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.

The investigation is continuing.
